I worked for Symmetry Break Studio as a 2D Artist/Animator and helped them develop the prototype of their game Misgiven. A 2D sci-fi adventure with a uniquely tangible dialog system where you play as a space adventurer stranded in a mysterious city.
Misgiven won the Young Talent Award: for Best Prototype (German PC Game Awards) in 2024 and was nominated for the Ubisoft Newcomer Award (German Developer Award) in 2023.
Dialogue options have different emotional weights depending on your openness to the other person and some dialogue options can only be said with some effort. Choosing to be vulnerable poses a risk, as some characters will appreciate it, but others might use that honesty against you.
It was my job to develop the look of the game’s dialogue system. To do this, I first developed it in Adobe After Effects and experimented with different options until we finally found the final look for it.
My tasks also included illustrating and animating the different background elements that decorate the game’s futuristic city and making the holograms that the different characters use to express their emotions.
These were all created primarily in Photoshop and Adobe After Effects and I also worked in Spine 2D Pro to create things like idle animations, different reactions for the characters and to create some of the scenes we used in the trailer.
